Well here in Germany 1st of May is a holiday, concerning mainly political stuff...I don't know much about. But the most important thing about it is, this day ist work free...*lol*. On the other hand, the night from april 30 to may 1st is Beltane, a celtic witches celebration. In Germany it is also called Walpurgisnacht, where the witches meet on the Blocksberg to dance and celebrate. :-)
