Do today what others won't, so you can live tomorrow how others can't.

Find someone who is successful and do what they do so you can have what they have
By trade, I'm a software engineer. I've spent nearly thirty years writing computer programs. I wear my geekdom with pride. I'm quite good at what I do and I love doing it. It's one of those jobs where every day it's a new challenge. It's problem solving personified and it allows me to express my creativity. I paint pictures with code. I've written more applications in my professional history than I can remember. You can check out my professional resume here.
This was a lesson my Grandfather taught me/ I've tried to live it my entire life
Whether you think you can or you can't, either way you're right
-- Henry Ford
The photo you see here is one I took while SCUBA diving on a wall at Roatan Island off the north shore of Honduras. Photography is one of my hobbies and there's nothing quite as exhilarating as underwater photography. Anyway, SCUBA diving is another thing that truly excites me. I got started with SCUBA in 1990 while I lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia -- through Lynnhaven Dive Center. It was something I had always wanted to do and I can't even begin to describe to anyone who never has what a beautiful and soul filling experience SCUBA diving is.
Besides being a SCUBA diving instructor, I'm also a certified first aid instructor. I got started teaching first aid because of my certification as a SCUBA instructor in advanced open water diving. The two kind of go hand in hand and, again, it ties right in with my love of teaching and my desire to help others. I was introduced to first aid while I was in the Army and my involvement in SCUBA expanded on that.
Here's another a lesson my Grandfather taught me. This one is the story of my life ~smile~
Experience is defined as the ability to recognize a mistake when you're making it again
Kids in the front seat cause accidents. Accidents in the back seat cause kids.
The photograph you are looking at is of my children. Actually, I have four children. These three are already grown, married and off on their own life adventures. My baby isn't in the picture, but she's the light of my life... nine, going on twenty-nine I think. It's no accident that I put a picture of my children next to that quote. ~evil grin~
Once upon a time, I was working as a staff photographer in a place called "Old Time Photos" in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I took this picture there around 1992 as I recall. It seems like it was only a few weeks ago. I can't get over how quickly our children grow up on us.
... there is no Grandfather who does not adore his Grandson
-- Victor Hugo
Before my Son left for his deployment to Iraq, he gave me a gift... he married this beautiful young lady who I adore and adopted this handsome young man. Meet my first Grandchild, that's the dapper young man in that photo... getting his first ever haircut. Boy does having a Grandchild suddenly alter the way you look at the world. I can't even begin to describe the feeling of looking at a child in this light. Nor can I tell you how much I cherish that. What an amazing gift.
Not withstanding the fact that I know how well the juice worked with the inflammation and pain from surgery I had, the thing that stands out most to me is headaches. I got them a lot. I'm not one who likes to take drugs, at all if I can help it. I figure that most drugs only treat the symptoms, not the problem and most of the time the symptom is how the body fights off the problem. So, if you block the symptom, I believe you are blocking your body's ability to heal itself. XanGo kills my pain WITHOUT having to resort to drugs and that works for me!
There are many benefits the network marketing industry offers those who want more from their lives
I've built enough successful businesses and products in my lifetime to recognize opportunity when I see it. It didn't take me long at all to realize what a huge opportunity XanGo is. The product is phenomenal, the company leadership reads like a who's who in network marketing and you couldn't be looking at a better market at a better time. In just five years XanGo has built a billion dollar brand and that wasn't by accident. The thing that really floors me is the opportunity that is still ahead.
What is the measure of your character?
Hard work spotlights the character of people: Some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all.

A Little Bit More of Where I Come From! This is where I sent my Pinto/walker horse, Copper to teach children to ride. Gimme A Dream (the horse) came from this camp and I'll probably send my mare, Willow Breeze to assist in the teaching of the young people. I would send a horse to Giddy Up to be trained or re-trained if necessary. Giddy Up Pony Camp belongs to my niece, who is, I must say, very beautiful. They take excellent care of the youngsters. If you're vacationing in PEI, perhaps your child would like a week, or two, or more, learning about horses and Prince Edward Island. The youngsters live in a 4 star B&B or come as day campers. Not only do they have activities involving horses, but also other interesting learning activities. I hope all is well with you and your family. With the passing of an incredible Xango Leader and mentor, Bob Schmidt, I want to take the time to let the people I care about know how important they are to me. Life is so short, we need to embrace it and value the time we have with family and friends. God has a plan for us and we never know when our time will be up. I value your friendship and wanted you to know. Tell your family you love them and give them an extra hug, just because. Many Blessings to you, Carla
I wanted to stop by and wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day !! All of us, no matter what country we are from, can stop and remember to pay tribute to all the men and women that have lost their lives and served our countries. They are very brave, and we owe them our gratitude !!

I have a broad and eclectic taste in music... anything from Mozart to Rammstein. My playlist has over 1600 tracks in it. Among my favorites are Pink Floyd, Zepplin, Steppenwolf, Blue October, A3 and Rammstein. I love music that gets in your head or just makes you pound your feet to the beat... music that moves me mentally or physically.
Long long ago, in a land far far away, I [played drums in school and bass in a rock band. I miss it. I still have a guitar I play badly. One of these days I'm going to have the idle time I need to learn to play it well.
My Dad played guitar, mostly folk. I loved to hear him play, I miss him.

Movies:

If you're looking for success in your life... you have to start here... with "The Secret"
I love a good movie, but not the heady stuff. I like movies that take you someplace fantastic, that weaves a story that entertains and enchants. The artsy stuff bores me.
My favorite movies of all time are Excaliber and 2001. There are few movies I will watch more than once, these I've watched more times than I can count. The cinematography in them is stunning and the story even better.
Life is complicated enough. I spend my days exercising my brain writing code, solving problems, building my business and so on. Movies are an escape, a place where I can rest my head, laugh, visit another time or place and just be entertained.
That said, I do love to learn, as well. Two movies I really like are The Secret and What the Bleep Do We Know? -- Great personal development movies and movies that really make you stop and think about the world around you. If you haven't seen these movies, you really owe it to yourself to watch them.

TV:
Â
Yes... I confess... I have yet to have missed an episode...
I don't watch a lot of network TV... frankly, I find most of it just plain stupid. I'm not a fan of low-brow humor and even less of a fan of shows that are about little more than seeing how rude and obnoxious they can be. Talk shows are even worse. I really wish Dr. Phil would go to Iraq and try to negotiate a peace deal -- only in the hopes that he would be kidnapped by some right-wing zealot. (I'm kind of kidding)
There are a few network shows I do enjoy... Heroes is a great show. I love Lost, as well. I'm also a fan of The Unit and for some reason I've been watching Torchwood on BBC America. A show I just recently have been watching is Moonlight which has, so far, been very good. I've also been watching Cane but confess I'm beginning to bore of it.
What I really enjoy watching is the programming on chanels like National Geographic, The Science Channel, etc. Especially those that deal with space science, astronomy and earth science. Mars Rising has been an excellent series, as was Planet Earth and Hot Rocks... you just have to love a Scottish Geologist. He was like the Steve Erwin of minerals ~lol~
Â
Books:
Â
Arthur C. Clarke... pure genius.
I don't read like I used to. I miss it, actually. I used to consume books like ice water. The last bunch of years, it just seems that by the itme I get to settle in with a book, I'm just two or three pages into it before I'm snoring. I look forward to the day when I can take the time to pause and read again.
My favorite books are science fiction and fantasy... Issac Asimov: I Robot and The Rest of the Robots, Arthur C. Clark: the Rama series, David Eddings: The Belgariad, The Malloreon and The Elenium are all must reads to me. As a child, I was a huge Hardy Boys fan... that seems so long ago.

Heroes/Idols:
Â
This brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it... these are my heroes! Thank you.
My Grandfather -- there was nothing loving about him that showed on the outside, but he was a brilliant man and underneath that crusty Scottish exterior I know he cared. He was impressive to look at, even in his seventies... crystal clear steel gray eyes, broad square shoulders and not an ounce of fat on him. I still carry the image of him on the stairs in his Kilt each New Year's Eve: the only thing he was lacking was a broad sword... and I'm glad of it.
My Dad -- I miss him. I regret we didn't get to share more of our lives. We were estranged from the time I was four until I was in my late thirties when I was given the opportunity to know him. He doesn't know it, but he's the one who taught me it was okay to chart my own course in life.
My children -- they've endured much compliments of their Mother and I, and yet somehow they've come through it all and each shine in their own way.
